Converting an Epson EcoTank printer to sublimation (all EcoTank ET- models, including T3170x): With a brand-new printer, initiate it with sublimation ink for the first time. For used printers, draining previous ink can be a hassle, but our recommended procedure ensures your printer is thoroughly prepared. Ensuring the printhead is functioning adequately is essential before performing conversions. Remove paper trays, flip the printer over, and allow the ink to drain into a container.

If you plan to use a pre-owned large-format printer, here's what you need to know:

Before transitioning from a different ink type, make sure to run a nozzle check to verify the printhead is functioning properly. Do not attempt to recalibrate a printer that is not printing accurately.

Have a maintenance tank or maintenance tank resetter readily available before beginning.

Take out all of the old ink cartridges and insert new refillable cartridges filled with purge fluid or cleaning cartridges (when appropriate), certified for your printer model.

Run the initial fill process twice to ensure all the old ink is flushed and the new ink and purge fluid are fully integrated.

Do not use water to clean the refilled cartridges. Instead, fill them only with around 50 mL of sublimation ink, draw out the residual ink until the resulting mixture resembles sublimation ink, then refill the cartridges to max capacity without overfilling.
